Brown, Rachel

Brown, Rachel

Rachel Brown was born in 1975 and began playing musical instruments at the age of seven. By the age of ten she was composing small pieces on a keyboard. Rachel played flute as her main instrument and has attained Grade 6 in theory and Grade 7 in practical. Rachel obtained an 'A' at GSCE music and has also completed a studio recording course, now having a small record label which sells relaxation music. Rachel would like to spend more time on her full orchestral works, and being at the start of her career she hopes to continue for many years.

Sheet Music Pieces

Rachel Brown - Five Concert Etudes (Solo Flute)
Order Code: B&D13603

Traditional Etudes with a melodic flavour to suit performance. The Etudes practice speed, agility, expression and solo work, and are bright, rhythmic and full of expression. Etude No. 1 is a solo for grade 8 and above that practices fingering, note jumps, dynamics, breathing control, concentration and stamina - it is a wonderfully melodic exercise that when played well, and at the correct speed, will go down a treat in any concert. Etude No. 2 is an exercise practicing triplets whilst changing from staccato to slurred notation - this exercise as written will be useful to most students from around grade 3, and can be played in the higher octave from around grade 6. Etude No. 3 is a fast solo practicing note jumps, speed and playing in the highest octave - the exercise uses top C on several occasions and is suitable for grade 8 and above. As the piece is also melodic, it makes an excellent concert piece when played well at the correct speed with dynamics and expression. Etude No. 4 gives practice in playing in 6/8 with note jumps and triple tonguing, and would suit players around grade 6 standard. Etude No. 5 is a solo practicing longer passages and arpeggios, reaching top C and suitable for grade 8 and above. The higher passages can be easily played in the lower octave to give lower grade students fingering practice.

Rachel Brown - Six Recorder Duets (Descant Recorder Duet)
Order Code: B&D13604

The two recorders intertwine to make listening as enjoyable as playing. Duet No. 1 is reflective of the baroque period and is a duet that can be enjoyed by the very young and the very old - middle school students will enjoy the challenge whilst college students and performers can use the melodies to show the beautiful sounds of their more professional instruments. Duet No. 2 is a happy and bouncy beginner to intermediate piece with a four bar solo for the more adventurous or advanced player, while also giving younger students a taste of solo playing within a group or piece. Duet No. 3 is slower than the last two and is an interesting and fun duet for beginners, whilst older students and professionals may find this a pleasant performance piece with its flowing melodies. Duet No. 4 is for intermediate players and upwards and is a melodic study with key changes, much use of dynamics including accents and a 'theme' throughout the 2nd recorder part. Duet No. 5 is a piece for older students, amateurs and professionals, and is a faster, summary piece with the opportunity to show expressive technique. Duet No. 6 is a delicate piece in A minor with mostly staccato notation - melodic with much expression its slower speed means it may be played by beginner to intermediate students. Some of the duets may be suited to dance, especially ballet.
